Pokemon has been getting a little weird with it when it comes to its Mega Evolution reveals for Pokemon Legends: Z-A, but its Malamar teasers might take the award for the weirdest ones yet. We didn’t even know for sure they were teasing Mega Malamar at first, but now that the new Mega Evolution’s design has finally been revealed, we know that’s what all the fuss has been about.
The video focused on a news report, hinting that the people acting odd in the initial teaser were likely doing so because of something to do with Malamar. Much like the trailer revealing Mega Victreebel, there’s once again a trainer at the center of it all who blames themselves for what Mega Malamar has been up to.
Mega Malamar Has Been Revealed, Time To Tell The World What You Think Of It
The reveal comes at the end when said trailer reveals Mega Malamar to the world. The Pokemon’s new form has a bright, rainbow-colored body in place of its regular one, and it is spinning its tentacles, which are also glowing, to hypnotize people. As has been the case for all of the recent Mega Evolution reveals, Mega Malamar will make its Pokemon game debut in Legends: Z-A.
Pokemon’s Mega Malamar tease began last week with a very strange video in which everyone was a little too excited about the upside-down squid Pokemon, particularly the guy whose car interior is lined with Malamar plushes. While weirder than anything we have seen during the build to Legends Z-A’s release so far, the Blair Witch-style teaser for Mega Victreebel was also pretty out there.
Malamar and Victreebel will be joined by fellow new Mega Evolutions Dragonite and Hawlucha. Mega Dragonite was the first of the reveals, and while the jury is still out on Malamar, Dragonite is the least well-received of the Mega reveals so far. Its design is little more than a regular Dragonite with wings on its head, but its appearance in the Horizons anime does seem to have won a few people over.
Mega Hawlucha’s reveal was a lot more welcome with Pokemon’s wrestling bird being given a better mask, a nicer cape, and a few extra inches of height. The only downside, depending on how you feel, is the extra feathers between its legs. Pokemon fans pointed out what those feathers look like, and I’ve not been able to look at Mega Hawlucha in the same way since.
